Portuguese Real Estate Professionals and Agents Association
The Portuguese Real Estate Professionals and Agents Association main concern is to protect the legitimate
interests of the professional group that it represents. It has
witnessed, as a result of the two associations that led to its
constitution, a considerable evolution in the number of associates,
currently counting with around 3,500 real estate agents, out of a total
of 4,000 existing accredited agents.
From an international perspective, APEMIP is a major member of the
FIABCI- International Real Estate Federation and is responsible for
presiding in Portugal this reputed international body, which
congregates worldwide all professionals of the real estate sector, as
well as of CEI – European Confederation of Real Estate Agents, with
head office in Brussels, which mainly focuses on real estate issues of
the European continent.

Instituto da Construção e do Imobiliário
Unlike the United
Kingdom, estate agents and builders in Portugal are licensed and
have to follow strict laws. The
Instituto da Construção e do Imobiliário, the governing body which
regulates both industries was formerly known as IMOPPI, but on 1 May
2007 following restructuring the office is now referred to as InCI.
All agents
must display their AMI licence number and you can check out the InCI
website to see if agents are registered. Similarly you can consult
the directory of registered constructors within a specific region or
town to ensure they are registered and have an up to date Alvara.

Confederation of Real Estate Agents
The CEI (Confédération Européenne de l'Immobilier: European
Confederation of Real Estate Agents) is one of Europe's largest
professional organisation of estate agents, now counting well over
45,000 members from hundreds of cities in thirteen European countries.
The Voice of Real Estate in Europe. Its purpose is to establish and
improve international cooperation, to advise on issues concerning
trans-national real estate transactions and to influence European
ruling insofar as this relates to real estate practice.

Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (the
Foreign Secretary) is responsible to Parliament for the work of the
FCO. He is supported by four Ministers of State, one Parliamentary
Under-Secretary of State, and a Permanent Under-Secretary of State
(PUS) who is the Head of the Diplomatic Service. You can find out more
